Principles of Hydraulics

Pioneers, such as Galileo, Newton and Pascal, discoveredinteresting phenomena many years in advance of actualpractical applications of their theories. Pascal discoveredand formulated the “Law of Hydraulics” about the year
1650, but nearly 150 years passed before that law wasexploited in a practical application.

Pascal’s law, which states
“an external force exerted on a unit of area of a confinedliquid will be transmitted undiminished to every unit area ofthe interior of the vessel” , is the basis upon which everyhydraulic device functions.
